Anstalt wedding

Anstalt Wedding ist die erste von Jugendlichen selbst geführte Galerie im Bezirk Mitte von Berlin und versteht sich als Projektraum von und für Jugendliche die sich kreativ und künstlerisch betätigen möchten.
Der von den Jugendlichen selbst gewählte Name der Galerie, der das oftmals in der Öffentlichkeit vorherrschende Bild über Jugendliche (nicht nur) aus dem Wedding satirisch zuspitzt, soll einerseits provozieren, andererseits wollen die Jugendlichen mit ihren Arbeiten und der Organisation des Projektraums zeigen, daß dieses Bild nicht zwangsläufig stimmt.
Die jungen Galerist/innen stellen teilweise ihre eigenen Arbeiten, aber auch Kunstwerke von anderen Kindern und Jugendlichen aus dem Kiez aus. Dadurch soll eine Vernetzung von verschiedensten Projekten und eine Ausstrahlung der künstlerischen Aktivitäten in die Community erreicht werden.
Anstalt Wedding soll den Jugendlichen einen Ort bieten, an dem sie ihre Kreativität ausprobieren und ausleben können, der aber auch ein Ort des spielerischen Lernens und Erfahrens sein kann.


Anstalt Wedding is the first gallery in Berlin in the district of “Mitte”, which is lead by the youth themselves. At the same time the gallery offers possibilities and room for other youth, to accomplish and exhibit their own creative ideas and artistic works. The gallery is a room from youth and for youth.
The name of the gallery “Anstalt” means translated the same as “psychiatric hospital”. This name was chosen by the youth themselves and it has the sarcastic meaning to describe the public prejudice of the youth living in the district of Wedding. Through this name the youth don’t mean to only provoke, but show through their artistic works, that this public opinion isn’t the truth.

The four youth leading the gallery exhibit their own works and also works from other youth from the district, for example from school classes. One of the goals is, to get as many youth institutions and schools to involved as possible and so reach positive image for the artistic activities in the district.
Anstalt Wedding wants to offer the youth room and the possibility to be creative and accomplish their own ideas, to learn and explore new things.
